MISSION STATEMENT

The philosophy behind our workshops is as follows:

We firmly believe that it is much better to show someone how to achieve something rather than tell them what to do.

To this end we will be working alongside you all the way.

We often hear complaints about other photographic workshops that the leaders are too busy taking their own photographs of the set-ups and locations offered to spend enough time with the participants. So we make it a point to never shoot our own photographs during the workshop.

We are there solely for you and are available at all times and not there to embellish our own portfolios!

When it comes to post production, one of our mantras is ‘You can never make a bad picture good using post-production, but you can always make a good picture better’. This is why we concentrate on getting as much as possible right, and eliminating any problems before we press the shutter rather than relying on tricks on our computers afterwards. A philosophy both of us believe in and rely on in our professional careers.

We are often asked about the ‘levels’ on our workshops and the answer is always the same. In our experience a mixed group provides by far the best learning experience for all concerned. Working together as a group, alongside two experienced professionals, is the best way to improve and we do find that an absolute beginner will often ask the questions that a more experienced photographer ought to be asking but may sometimes feel they can’t. And remember! There is no such thing as a ‘stupid question’. It’s a win-win situation. Similarly, there is no need to feel intimidated by equipment. We concentrate much more on ‘eye’ rather than ‘kit’. Whether you are a Leica aficionado or an iPhone user there is a place for you…

We are called ‘Two Photographers’ for a reason! We are both working, regularly published professional photographers with, rather unbelievably well over 60 years experience between us, but the benefit of working with us is that, as photographers we are both completely different. Tim is incredibly experienced, having been a working pro for over forty years, growing up in the ‘film years’, assisting a wide variety of photographers in both studio and location situations, before embarking on his long career. Joanna, by contrast, is almost completely self taught and has forged her hugely successful career single handedly using her skills in composition and her amazing eye for styling. So based on the well known saying ‘It would be a dull world if we were all the same’ you will be benefiting from two completely differing views of your work and working methods.

We provide a balance between stimulating your eye by providing you with the raw materials to make great images, and showing you how to use vital tools and a few ‘tricks of the trade’ which will help you make the most of your images.

Thus, a typical day might include a morning spent shooting at an interesting location followed by an afternoon of post production work, with an opportunity for each participant to work one to one with Tim or Joanna. We would then round everything off with a good de-briefing over a glass of wine or two followed by a great dinner.
