An authentic photographic workshop concentrating on Travel, Food & Wines
with Interiors & Still Life
led by Tim Clinch and Joanna Maclennan.
SOLD OUT
We will be based in the heart of two towns in the heart of Tim’s beloved Andalucia. The historic and beautiful town of Cadiz and the elegant wine producing town of Jerez de la Frontera.
We are still to confirm details of accommodation, but rest assured, we have a couple of VERY exciting and beautiful locations lined up in the centre of both cities.
This workshop is limited to 8 people and the all-inclusive price is €4,250.00 per person for single person occupancy (discount applies when sharing a room - contact us for details). This covers everything apart from your airfare to Sevilla and insurance (and if you need any help or advice in getting here, please ask), including all tuition, airport transfers, local transport, accommodation, food and wine.
We also offer a monthly payment plan if this is easier for you. Please do not hesitate to contact us.
LOCATION
We will be based in the centre of these two bustling and historic towns. Tim lived in the province of Cadiz for five years and we are smack dab in the middle of his ‘Manor’.
Tim says “It was a pleasure and a privilege last year to spend time here and introduce Joanna to what is my all-time favourite part of the world. Both cities are amazing as well as being a photographers dream. The fish market in Jerez (designed by Gustave Eiffel of Eiffel Tower fame in 1885) is, for me, simply the best!”
The focus of this workshop will be Travel Photography and the art of photographic storytelling. Building a story is one of the essential components of photography and something we will be concentrating on. Obviously, in this part of the world there will be a lot of attention paid to the wines and food of the region. The mainstay of sherry will never be far from our lips (and if you don’t know your sherry, or maybe think of it as the musty, sweet stuff your grandma used to drink at Christmas, you are in for a MASSIVE treat. Manzanilla, Fino, Amontillado, Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez being the mainstays of these delicious wines)
ITINERARY
Our workshops tend to be set out in a similar way. Long mornings are set aside for shooting when we will be taking you to some very exciting and varied locations, followed by lunch, and in the afternoons we will be concentrating on post-production and editing back at our accomodation. There will be plenty of time for one-to-one tutoring with both of us and then we will share what we have shot that morning with the rest of the group. With Tim’s intimate knowledge of the region and his professional relationship with the ‘Consejo Regional de Vinos de Jerez’ (the governing body for all the wines and spirits of the region) and his friendship and working relationship with the organisers of the very successful ‘Sherry Week’, the photographic possibilities are literally endless.
From private visits to some of the best known Bodegas to trips to private vineyards deep in the rolling chalk hills. From trips to such beautiful places in the heart of the ‘Sherry Triangle’ such as the delightful ‘El Puerto de Santa Maria’, home to one of Tim’s favourite Bodegas, Gutiérrez Colosia to his favourite bar in the whole of Spain, Bar Vicente, to the town of Sanlucar de Barrameda, home to Manzanilla, the driest of all the sherries and some of the tastiest fish cookery known to man we will be drinking in the sights, sounds and tastes of this remarkable region.
THE CLIMATE
Quite simply, the weather in Andalucia in November is almost always ideal!
When you know you’ll be huddling around the fire pretty much everywhere else, blue skies, temperatures in the mid 20sC and sunshine will be the order of the day. A light jacket or a sweater may be needed at night but generally…GORGEOUS!
WHAT IS TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY?
You may think this is a stupid question but based on our philosophy of ‘You’ll never be a better interiors/food/portrait/landscape photographer until you’re a better PHOTOGRAPHER’ let Tim explain…
‘Over the years as a regular contributor to Conde Nast Traveller Magazine amongst others, the one thing I have learned about shooting travel is that there is no single theme to it. Over the years I have covered Interiors, food, wine, portraits, landscapes, dusks, dawns, cars, sunshine, rain, snow and pretty much everything in between. This is why I LOVE travel photography so much. As a photographer nothing pushes you as much and get you out of your comfort zone like it!’
…But the real skill lies in collating all these images and making them into a story. A story that hangs together where all the images are carefully edited together to speak to each other. A story that can transport you to the place you are talking about…
One of the best tips I can offer you as a travel photographer is to learn the quiet art of wandering around and getting lost. Genuinely, some of my finest pictures have happened when I am doing this, and if you can find a better place to put this art into practice than the narrow alleyways of the Barrio de la Vina in Cadiz or the backstreets around Jerez’s beautiful market place I would be amazed. To say that this is my favourite part if the world, not to mention a photographer’s heaven is no exaggeration’
